A Foodie’s Guide to motorbike tours

Experience different iconic and lesser-known food spots. Sample classic Swahili cooking like Grilled Fish, Pilau, Biriyani, Coconut Fish, Charred meat, Coconut beans, and Shawarma among others. You can also get introduced to multiple food establishments including lesser-known spots and get to try other local cuisine and have must-try dishes like Nyama choma (grilled goat/cow), Ugali (Maize meal) and Kachumbari (Tomato and onion salad). This I can say is one of the most loved meals by most locals.

Sampling the best local cuisine on two wheels

Touring and food are deeply interconnected to each other and what better way to please your tummy than sampling the best local cuisine on a motorbike tour. Also, you should note that different communities have their own unique native foods. Some of the food that is universally eaten in Kenya include Ugali, vegetables, and Githeri (A mixture of maize and beans). One example of must-try food or dish in Kenya includes Ugali, which is the most popular food in Kenya. It can be enjoyed with vegetables, beef stew, fish or Nyama Choma. It is also available in almost all local restaurants in all parts of the Country. Another must-try dish is Roasted meat (Nyama Choma) which is also another famous dish in Kenya. Next is Fried fish (Samaki fry) which is mostly Tilapia or Nile perch. It is accompanied by Ugali alongside Kachumbari. Silver Cyprinid (Omena) is another delicacy mostly known to people or communities living along the shores of Lake Victoria. Plantain banana stew (Matoke) is prepared by frying plantains and is best enjoyed with beef stew and rice. It is a common dish among the Kisii people of the Western region. Kenyan sausage (Mutura) is one of the best street food in Kenya. It is a delicious snack which is rich in proteins and is well taken with Kachumbari. Other must-try dishes include Chapati, a soft flatbread served with other stews, Chips mwitu (French fries), Smokie pasua (smoked sausage with Kachumbari), Mahindi choma (grilled maize), and Samosas (Triangular pastry) among others. Your journey to a place is incomplete if you haven’t tasted its local cuisine.
