Itineraries

Dusty Helmets offer a range of bike safaris to some of the most spectacular areas in Kenya. Our aim is to show you the natural beauty and cultural diversity of Kenya on two wheels. Our trips combine incredible tracks and routes on enduro bikes with game viewing (in vehicles) in some of Kenya's finest parks and reserves.

The itineraries below are to give you an idea of the areas we can visit on our FE 390 Husabergs. All the trips can be tailor made and the length of each trip depends entirely on you! We also offer you the opportunity to add onto your bike safari – for example after a week's riding, a few days relaxation at the Kenya Coast or the Maasai Mara! The bikes are transported to the starting point of the safari and back to Nairobi to ensure your own safety, avoiding main highways.

While on safari, we provide back up vehicles carrying fuel, water, spares and inclusive of our services is the world-renowned flying doctors service. (Emergency medical airlift evacuation).

5 nights 6 days: Soysambu – Loita Plains/Maasai Mara – Naivasha - Nairobi – DH003

Maasai Mara National Reserve – Set between the waters of Lake Victoria in the west and the Rift Valley in the east, is the panoramic and wonderful Maasai Mara. It is undoubtedly Kenya’s finest animal reserve but also the most visited in Kenya. The reserve is covered in undulating grassland and is nearly 2000m above sea level. The reserve is watered by one of Kenya’s bigger rivers – the Mara. The Maasai Mara lies in the southwest part of the country and is in fact an extension of the “Serengeti Plains” in Tanzania. Each year, this magnificent wilderness in Kenya stages one of nature’s most dramatic spectacles – the Migration. It is estimated that towards the end of June more than a million wildebeest, thousands of zebras and antelope, followed by ravening packs of predators enter the Maasai Mara. Wherever you go in the Maasai Mara there are animals, and you are sure of seeing Kenya’s famous “Big 5” – elephant, buffalo, rhino, lion and leopard. Bird life is also abundant, over 450-recorded species including 57 species of birds of prey. The Mara River is crocodile infested and hippo congregate at deep bends in the river. While in the Maasai Mara, there is the opportunity of visiting a Maasai “enkang” (village) or going on an awesome hot air balloon safari. Everything about this reserve is outstanding and the sights of this natural wonderland are breathtaking. The Esoit Oloololo Escarpment forms the western border and is part of the Great Rift Valley.

The Loita Plains lie at the foot of the Loita Hills to the East of the world famous Masai Mara Game Reserve. A vast landscape of savanna grasslands and scattered Acacia trees, it sits in the middle of the Serengeti Maasai migration corridor through which the annual wildebeest migration occurs. The Loita Hills are a low-lying mountain range located south of Nairobi and northeast of the Maasai Mara. This area is rarely visited and offers superb riding through remote forests, wide open plains surrounded by the stunning hillsides and dotted with roaming wildlife.

Southern Kenya and the Coast DH5

Deep in the heart of Southern Kenya’s Maasai land is the unearthly Lake Magadi. This 104 sq km soda lake is completely surrounded by vast natural salt flats.

The ride from Shompole to Amboseli, via the border town of Namanga, provides some of the best views of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Grogan’s Castle Hotel is a historical castle, close to Taveta town. Built in the 1930's the castle is located on a hill, offering the most spectacular view of Mt Kilimanjaro. Tsavo National Park is Kenya’s largest park divided by the Nairobi-Mombasa road into Tsavo West and Tsavo East. Grogan’s Castle actually adjoins Tsavo West, with the Park’s Lake Jipe Gate a mere 20 minutes drive away.

Lakes Chala & Jipe. These two lakes are very different from each other, Lake Jipe is a small, shallow lake area 28 square kilometers and average depth less than 3 meters. Lake Chala is so deep they have not found out its depth. It is 3 km long and 2.4 km wide, roughly straddling the Kenya/Tanzania border.

South Coast/Diani Beach – The beaches in Kenya are some of the finest in the world. Diani Beach is the longest beach in Kenya – about 20km of clear sea, coral reef that is exposed at low tide and white sand. The accommodation and food is of high standards and plenty of activities on offer: windsurfing, kite surfing, snorkeling, sailing and scuba diving. A perfect way to end your bike safari – sun, sea & sand!
